The 25th AGM and 26th Investiture saw the baton passed to the new leaders of the Student Union.
The Nanyang Technological University Students’ Union (NTUSU) held its 25th Annual General Meeting and 26th Investiture on Sept 19th, with over 200 union members in attendance.
The outgoing president, Gabriel Chee Xi Jian, presented the objectives he had set and achieved for the council in his address to the attendees. Notable mentions included the initiatives and achievements accomplished by the Business and Corporate Communications division, in addition to that of the Welfare and Student Activity portfolios.
In line with the objectives of the 25th Annual General Meeting, council member Henry Loh Wei Jie presented the proposed amendments to the constitution. These amendments were proposed to keep the constitution updated with the Union’s operations while being consistent with the University’s regulations.
Finally, the 26th Executive Committee was sworn in, with incoming president Gan Rui Yun shaping the future direction of the Union in his address. Having thanked the 25th Executive Committee for their accomplished year of leadership, Rui Yun declared that the 26th Executive Committee will strive to match up and build on the 25th Executive Committee’s works and legacy. Following that came the restatement of the Executive Committee’s objectives: ensuring that students’ needs are met, enhancing students’ welfare and broadening students’ perspectives through the various services and initiatives the Union has. Rui Yun then shared the 4 cornerstones that set up the direction for the Executive Committee: to have a strong internal governance system, to have strong team spirit, to build relationships as well as to build trust. In addition to emphasising the importance of the 4 cornerstones, he also acknowledged that the 26th Executive Committee will need the support of all Union members, especially that of the committee members.
The 25th AGM and 26th Investiture concluded, following the Executive Committee’s statement: to work hand in hand to help the Union become more transparent, accountable and sustainable – to become a more effective representation organisation for students – and to help build a better and more vibrant university experience for everyone.
